Charity Fun Day at Wren's Nest Pub, Telford

A great time was had by all at the Charity Fun Day held recently at the Wren’s Nest pub in Ketley, Telford.

The idea of the event was that of Karl Duce and Lee Pearsall, two young men who suffered acquired brain injuries.  The Fun Day was opened by Deputy Mayor, Amrik Jhawar, in fine sunshine which continued throughout the day.  It was great to see Karl and Lee making welcome speeches as part of the opening.

There were a number of stalls to raise funds for Karl and Lee’s chosen charities of the Midlands Air Ambulance and The Child Brain Injury Trust

Lanyon Bowdler Solicitors ran a guess the number of bears in the picnic basket competition which went well.  It was interesting hearing the number of different questions that people asked to try and obtain information.  One contestant asked about dimensions of the basket and volume of straw etc.  It was no surprise to find out his occupation was an engineer!

We had also provided a “Splat the Rat” stall, however the rat went missing and I didn’t think I would ever find myself sending a text stating “Are we best to Splat Postman Pat or Jess the Cat instead of the rat!!”

Having enjoyed a relaxing time meeting lots of new people, I was informed by Karl that Ali McNamara was prepared to pay £10 to see me ride the rodeo.  Suffice to say, I won’t be giving up my day job, having come a cropper on the rodeo in double quick time.

I was quickly followed on the rodeo by Peppa Pig who did a much better job.

After lunch out came some stocks. The idea was to be able to throw sponges at the person constrained in the stocks. Karl volunteered and whilst waiting to be hit with the sponge some of his friends gave him an impromptu “ice bucket challenge” with the sponge water bucket which caused great hilarity all round.  It was great to see Karl and Lee being the centre of attention and enjoying the day as did everybody who attended. Much work went in behind the scenes and in particular by Lisa Hardy of A J Case Management to whom a big thank you is owed.
