Crime Prevention & Awareness for Farmers

My colleague Susan Shanahan and I attended a crime prevention and awareness event on 28 April 2015 at Chilton Farm, Atcham which is just outside Shrewsbury.

The event was organised by the Shropshire Rural Hub to raise awareness amongst farmers of the steps which can be taken to prevent rural crime. A number of companies displayed examples of the products available to assist with farm security.

Record Serial Numbers

The local crime prevention officer Stephen Loveridge gave advice about steps farmers can take to use new technology to deter criminal activity with such products as Smart Water, as well recording serial numbers of valuable items on the website immobilise.com (a free service). Such steps can help police trace the proceeds of crime back to the original owner and improve conviction rates. Other steps recommended by the crime prevention officer included the use signage, protecting diesel tanks, lighting and tracker beams.

This was a very informative event and similar events are to be organised by the Rural Hub during the next few months. Further information can be obtained from Stephen.j.loveridge@westmercia.pnn.police.uk.
