Don't Miss the Deadline

As Head of Agriculture at Lanyon Bowdler, I would like to make a timely reminder to farmers (especially those in Wales, and those Marches farmers who may have land on both sides of the border). that they need to make sure they hit the deadline for submission of their Basic Payment Scheme claims.

In England, the claims deadline has been extended from 15th May to 15th June. However, in Wales, the decision has been made to stick to the original deadline of 15th May; a matter of days away.

In a written statement on 2nd April, Rebecca Evans, the Deputy Minister for Farming and Food, said that the Welsh Assembly Government had taken that decision because it recognised the importance of the payments to Welsh farmers and the impact on their cash flow that would result from delays in payment due to an extended deadline.

Opening Hours

However, Welsh Government offices in Carmarthen, Llandrindod Wells and Caernarfon will be open until 7.00 p.m. on weekdays (and until 9.00 p.m. on 14th and 15th May). They will also be open from 8.00 a.m. until 2.00 p.m. on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th May. The telephone Customer Contact Centre will also be open during the same hours and can be contacted on 0300 062 5004.

In a press release on 6th May, DEFRA reminded cross-border farmers that they need to make their application to the agency that pays them, so if the paying agency is in Wales, the deadline which will apply is 15th May, even if they also have land in England.

It is vital that farmers don’t miss the deadline if they are to avoid late filing penalties, or even being out of time to apply for entitlements in this crucial first year of the new scheme.
