Fantastic Four Run 10k in London

On Sunday 12 July the sun shone on over 26,000 people as they waited to set off on a 10k run from London’s Hyde Park Corner.  Amongst those lined up were 4 fitness fanatics from Lanyon Bowdler – David Marston-Jones (who also took part in last year’s race), Kathryn Weaver, Lynsey Cater and novice runner Dawn Humphries, who has spent the last 12 months training – putting in lunchtime runs round Shrewsbury in order to get fit!

Our runners were quite close to the front and they were able to enjoy the sounds of the Band of the Coldstream Guards plus the Lord Mayor of London signal the start of the race at about 9.40am.

Needless to say the vast majority of runners ran in aid of charities; our team were running for the firm’s two chosen charities – Headway Shropshire and The Severn Hospice.  Dawn was delighted to come across another runner who was running for Headway London – they were able to give each other a few words of encouragement as they ran along the Embankment.

The runners enjoyed the sights round central London as the course twisted past Big Ben, the London Eye and St Paul’s Cathedral.

Speaking after completing the run David said “the atmosphere was amazing, the crowds cheered throughout the whole of the course, which really kept us going.”  Dawn added “I am a complete novice runner and so I have never experienced anything like this before, the support we received was fantastic, I felt absolutely elated as I crossed the finishing line and had a fantastic sense of achievement.”

The four runners all wish to pass on their thanks for the generous sponsorship and support their friends, family and colleagues have shown them.  There are plans to take part again next year; David is determined to build on the team and secure some new recruits.

Finally and quite rightly, it has to be acknowledged that David completed the course in a magnificent 40 minutes!  So it goes to show all those early morning runs have paid off!!
