Hereford Legal Walk

On Tuesday 5th May Team LB took to the streets of Hereford to participate in the Hereford Magna Carta Legal Walk 2015.

Myself, Lucy Small, Katherine Marriott-Lodge, Suzanne Lowe, Kayleigh Hunter, Marie Kelly and Toby the dog all took part in the 8km sponsored walk around Hereford and the beautiful surrounding area and raised £165.00 for The Midland Legal Support Trust.

The route took a Magna Carta theme to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the sealing of the Magna Carta which includes one of the most important clauses in legal history: “to no one will we sell, to no one deny or delay right or justice” highlighting the continuing relevance of the Great Charter in accessing justice today.

The Midland Legal Support Trust support the poorest and most vulnerable people living within Hereford, Shropshire and throughout the Midland to gain access to justice which would otherwise be out of reach. The organisations they support;

  • Help families living in terrible housing conditions
  • Help the elderly to gain the support they are entitled to
  • Help women and children who have been trafficked for domestic servitude or prostitution
  • Prevent destitution

The need for free legal advice centres have grown over the past few years. The recession has increased poverty and reduced support services. Meanwhile, government and local authority funding for the advice centres themselves has reduced.

Myself and the team were thrilled at the opportunity to take part in this event as we want to ensure that many of the people most in need, continue to get the help they would otherwise be denied.
