Shropshire Diamond Jubilee Pageant - A Memorable Day

The sun shone for HM the Queen yesterday when she attended the Diamond Jubilee Pageant at RAF Cosford.  Everyone must have breathed a sigh of relief that just for one day, the rain was going to hold off long enough to allow a glimpse of summer and to enable people to have an enjoyable and memorable day.

We had taken a trade stand, and after a bleary eyed, very early start (we were at Cosford for 6.45am setting up the stand!) our stall was looking cheery and colourful with blue and silver balloons, bunting and giveaways in the form of teddy bears, animal themed bookmarks, pens, pencils and sweets.  In addition, we had blue and silver cupcakes displayed on Jubilee style cake stands, and it wasn’t long before children were making a beeline for our table!

Just before noon we could see people starting to look skywards (which makes everyone else do the same!) and in the distance a helicopter could be seen approaching – the Queen had arrived!  Soon the crowds were making their way over to the roadside where, after a short wait, they could see the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh drive past, heading for one of the hangers where they were to meet dignitaries and have lunch.

At 1.30pm the Pageant started, and the Queen watched a ‘Reignbow’ procession as the people of Shropshire commemorated the six decades of the Queen’s reign.

It was fantastic to see everyone, adults and children alike, having such a wonderful time, and the service personnel at RAF Cosford did an amazing job co-ordinating the day.  It will no doubt be a day that everyone who was present will never forget.
