Swapping Law for the Stage - Chess The Musical in Shrewsbury

Next week, I’ll be swapping law for the stage as a cast member in the musical Chess at the Theatre Severn

I’m a member of Shrewsbury Amateur Operatic Society, and will be performing in the show as a dancer and member of the chorus.  Alongside my fellow cast members, we’ve been busy rehearsing for the show since summer 2012!  We’ll be supported by a host of students from various local dance schools.

Originally a West End production running for three years from 1986, ‘Chess’ features music by former ABBA members Benny and Bjorn, with lyrics by Tim Rice, and includes well known numbers such as ‘I Know Him So Well’ and ‘One Night in Bangkok’. It tells the story of a romantic triangle between two top chess players, an American and a Russian, and a woman who manages one player, whilst falling in love with the other.  It’s set during a world chess championship, against a backdrop of the Cold War struggle between the United States and the Soviet Union.

The show will run at Theatre Severn from Wednesday 13 March to Saturday 16 March at 7.30pm with an additional matinee on the Saturday afternoon.  Tickets start from £12.50 and are available from the Theatre Severn Box Office or online – so if musicals are your cup of tea, please do come along and see our show!
