Young Ludlow's Got Talent - The Final!

Whilst many people will have spent last Saturday night watching Britain’s Got Talent, I had my very own Simon Cowell moment when I sat on the judging panel at the live final of Young Ludlow’s Got Talent.

The competition was organised by Ludlow Rotary Club in conjunction with students from Ludlow College and a sold out crowd were thoroughly entertained by nineteen acts aged between 10 and 21. The event was supported by Lanyon Bowdler and I was delighted to be able to lend my support by sitting on the judging panel.

By day I am a solicitor but I have always had a love of performing and have taken part in lots of amateur productions. I must admit however that sitting on the panel I felt a little daunted, and rather under-qualified I was joined by a dance and singing coach, two talent agents and a professional actor who has starred in the West End!

As designated Dance Judge it was my role to give feedback to the five dance acts, all of whom were thoroughly entertaining. When it was my turn a booming voice announce me as “Judge Eleanor” and a close up shot of my face was projected on to the big screen. Having overcome initial nerves, I really started to enjoy my moment in the spotlight!

At the end of the show we were given just fifteen minutes to decide on the winner and five runners up. I hadn’t anticipated the decision being so difficult. Whilst we agreed immediately on some acts, there were many differences of opinion, with some decisions having to be taken by a show of hands. The act taking first place was Alex and Daniel, twin brothers who sang and played guitar to a song that they had written themselves.

Whilst we couldn’t give prizes to everybody, I was blown away by the confidence and talent shown by every single one of the competitors and I am sure they all have bright futures ahead of them.
